NovaSource Tapped to Power Australia’s Clean Energy Future with Mega Battery Project

Asia Aussie Business | NovaSource Power Services has officially joined forces with Equis to operate and maintain the Melbourne Renewable Energy Hub (MREH)—a cutting-edge energy storage project set to become one of Australia’s largest batteries. Located in Victoria and scheduled to go online in late 2025, the facility will deliver 600 megawatts of power and store 1.6 gigawatt hours of renewable energy—placing it among the top global energy storage installations.

What’s New?
Equis has selected NovaSource—the world’s largest independent solar operations and maintenance (O&M) provider—as the long-term partner for keeping the MREH project running at peak performance. Positioned strategically at the intersection of three major Renewable Energy Zones—Murray River, Western Victoria, and South Victoria—the hub will support Victoria’s mission to reach 95% renewable energy by 2035.

Under the deal, NovaSource will deliver full-scope O&M services: 24/7 system monitoring, predictive maintenance, performance engineering, and analytics-driven support. These services are designed to boost energy output, extend system life, and help Australia stay ahead in its energy transition.

“This partnership is more than just a contract—it’s a commitment to maximizing the long-term value of Australia’s clean energy infrastructure,” said Irfan Bharde, Senior VP and Chief Commercial Officer at NovaSource. “We’re honored to help bring the MREH to life and keep it performing well into the future.”

Ayssar Alsayed, NovaSource’s Country Manager for Australia, added, “This project is a turning point for utility-scale battery storage in the region. With our global expertise and local execution, we’re ready to make it a model for clean energy success.”

Shaping Australia’s Renewable Backbone
The MREH is more than a giant battery—it’s a critical component of Victoria’s energy ecosystem. By stabilizing the grid and storing excess renewable energy during off-peak times, the hub will help decarbonize the region’s electricity supply and improve energy reliability across the state.

NovaSource’s entry into this landmark project also strengthens its growing presence across the Asia-Pacific. The company’s advanced digital tools, deep O&M expertise, and boots-on-the-ground support are enabling smarter, more resilient clean energy infrastructure from the U.S. to Australia.
